  • 1 cup whole-milk yogurt
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 2 tsp garam masala
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp ground cayenne pepper
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-size pieces
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, grated
  • 1 tbsp ground cumin
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 (28-ounce) can tomato puree
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  1. In a large bowl, combine yogurt, lemon juice, 2 tsp turmeric, 2 tsp garam masala, 2 tsp ground cumin, 1 tsp ground coriander, and 1 tsp cayenne pepper. Add chicken, stirring to coat, cover, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chicken pieces and cook until browned, about 5-6 minutes. Remove chicken and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add onion, garlic, and ginger. Cook until onion is tender, about 5 minutes. Stir in 1 tbsp ground cumin, paprika, and cinnamon, and cook for an additional 1 minute.
  4. Add tomato puree, season with salt and pepper, and bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Return chicken to the skillet along with any juices. Stir in heavy cream and cook until chicken is cooked through and sauce is thickened, about 10 minutes.
  6. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve warm with naan or rice.
